It's Friday night. The kids are at the beach with my parents. I'm landlocked in Orlando because I have to work all weekend. The GML is on vacation. I'm bored.
So who's your best low rated player? Yeah, I know, secrets and such.. but maybe it can be educational.
5 seasons. 501 tackles and assists. 20 sacks. 17 interceptions. 3 defensive touchdowns.
And the AI selected him in the seventh round! During my first two seasons I wanted to quit the league. The pace was both too fast and too slow. There was very little to like about my players. The only reason I didn't quit was because I was given the Miami Dolphins. As a boy I used to watch Marino play on our second TV, while my dad watched his beloved--but godawful--Buccaneers in the other room. I grew older and Marino grew old, so I switched rooms to watch Tampa Bay with my dad. Three decades later I still watch every game with him. The 2002 Superbowl is one of the happiest days of my entire life. But I'm still nostalgic for Dan Marino throwing the ball downfield for the Miami Dolphins.
After my first round pick I was annoyed. The draft was progressing much faster than my first season and I hadn't done interviews. My team sucked but was somehow 9-7. It wasn't rational, I admit, but I set my team to autopick and vowed to resign. I have to say, the AI picks pretty well. I still start a fifth round corner turned safety and a seventh round linebacker from that draft. The second round halfback was awesome until I paid him and he turned to mush. I'm not a great drafter like some, so three starters (including the first round pick I was dejected about) five seasons later is pretty good.
Sherman Norris outperforms this guy.
4M vs 18M per year. The 18M is misleading though. I thought about making a thread on salary miscalculations. WR Cortez Kelly and LB Cody Giles both wanted about 21M a year. So I started at 18M, figuring we'd meet somewhere in the middle after a few days, but they both accepted the first offer. I've never had one player (but two!) accept the first offer. Now I have a quarterback to re-sign and I don't want to lowball him, but I don't want him to take the first offer either. I have a single player game saved and I ran some tests on it. I got a star quarterback to settle for sixty percent of his asking price. If anyone is interested I can expound on it.
